Sonos Audio

Soundbars and ceiling speakers in every room. Control everything from the Sonos app on your phone.

🛋️

Main Level

Connect your phone to the home wifi (not the guest network), download the Sonos app, and tap Settings > System > Add to existing system. Sign into your own Spotify or Apple Music inside the app — it'll remember it for the trip.

Tap Living Room → + → pick a music source

Group rooms by tapping a room → Group → select others to play in sync.

  • The soundbar picks up TV audio automatically when the TV's on
  • If the Sonos app can't find the system on iOS, allow Local Network access: iOS Settings > Sonos > Local Network. This is the #1 missed step
  • Apple Music has a known dropout bug — if music keeps stuttering, try Spotify or Tidal as a sanity check

Common Issues

  • App says "no system found": you're on cell data or the guest network. Switch to the home wifi and reopen the app
  • One room won't play: unplug that speaker for 10 seconds, plug back in, wait 60 seconds for it to rejoin
  • Audio drops out / skips: move closer to the speaker, or try a different streaming service. Apple Music is the usual culprit
  • Group volume at 100% but barely audible: tap into the group and check the individual room sliders — one at 10% drags the whole group down

Game Room

The Sonos Beam (Gen 2) handles TV audio automatically. To play music, open the Sonos app, tap Game Room, and pick a source. Group with other rooms from the Group menu if you want whole-house audio.

  • Use the TV remote — it controls Beam volume through CEC, no extra app needed
  • For gaming, turn ON Game Mode in the TV's picture settings to drop input lag. Turn it OFF for movies (it cuts dynamic range)
  • If lip sync is off, open Sonos app > Settings > System > Beam > Audio Delay and slide until matched

Common Issues

  • TV audio coming from TV speakers, not the Beam: in TV Sound settings, set Audio Output to HDMI ARC or eARC
  • Sound dropouts during gameplay: confirm CEC is on (Samsung calls it Anynet+, LG Simplink, Sony Bravia Sync)
  • Beam went silent after a TV firmware update: open Sonos app > System > Game Room > Run TV Setup again

Rooftop

In the Sonos app, tap Rooftop (or Outdoor) and pick a source. To play the same thing inside and out, tap the indoor room → Group → add Rooftop.

  • Outdoor sound carries — start around 30% and bring it up
  • Group volume can be loud while one room sits at 5%; check the individual room slider if it sounds quiet
  • Bass-heavy music at high volume will clip the outdoor amp. Drop bass to 0 in EQ if it sounds harsh

Common Issues

  • Music plays inside but rooftop is silent: open Sonos app, tap Rooftop, and either group it with the playing room or raise its individual volume
  • Rooftop is missing from the app entirely: the outdoor amp may have lost wifi — text me
  • Crackling or distortion at high volume: lower the volume, or open EQ for Rooftop and turn Loudness OFF

Note: the private theater uses a Lovesac soundbar with built-in seat speakers, not Sonos. See the Theater guide for that room.
